The father of one of the students at Sacred Mukumu Girls High School who died as a result of food poisoning has committed suicide.
The father, a police officer, shot himself dead in his house at Siala Kaduol Police Station in Gem, Siaya County, on Sunday evening.
Maurice Tilison Chisihavi, a police constable, was on duty and is said to have used his own gun to kill himself, as confirmed by Gem Sub-County Police Commander Cecelia Kemboi.
“He shot himself in the chin, and the bullet exited on the upper part of the head, killing him instantly,” Kemboi said.
Mr. Kemboi said the Mukumu Girls’ tragedy could have been the cause of his action.
“He is a teetotaler, and we suspect he could only kill himself if he was distressed,” Kemboi said.
“His daughter is one of the victims of the Mukumu Girls High School food poisoning incident. This had greatly affected him in the last few days,” Kemboi told the Star.
Kemboi added that the daughter of the deceased is safe and has since been discharged from a Kisumu-based hospital and went home to Kakamega.
Sam Oduor is the editor-in-chief at the Western Kenya Times who leverages the power of the Internet in telling stories that shape opinions.
You say in the article first that he was the father of one of the girls who died. Then you quote the Kemboi as saying “the daughter of the deceased is safe” and so its a bit confusing. I like reading your news stories otherwise as I’m in the middle of the United States and its not the easiest to locate news
of Western Kenya. So please continue.
