A cop is being held at the Matete Police Station in Kakamega County after he was allegedly found trying to rustle a calf.
West FM reported that a police report filed at the Matete Police Station on Thursday revealed the police officer was caught red-handed at the home of one Bernard Luvale Luchelele in Matete Village, just a hop, skip and a jump away from the police station.
The report further indicated that Mr. Luvale was aroused from his slumber by the commotion outside his house at around the ungoldy hour of 3:30 and found a man trying to make away with his prized calf valued at a cool Sh15,000.
He raised an alarm, which was answered by a posse of villagers who swiftly descended upon the hapless cop determined to take away his life before police intervened and rescued him.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has taken up the matter. According to preliminary investigations, the officer was totally drunk and might have missed his way and found himself in the homestead, Matete Deputy County Commissioner Philip Sigei said.
“Maybe there were thieves in the homestead at that particular time, and they ran away. The DCIO said once the investigations are complete and the officer is found culpable, he will be arraigned in court. We don’t want to draw conclusions before investigations are completed.”
