A 73-year-old embarked on a journey from his home in Trans Nzoia County to Voi in Taita-Taveta County to meet the famous Pastor Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre and Church.
In an unreferenced video seen by the Western Kenya Times, the septuagenarian said he was forced to use his ramshackle bicycle as his only means of transport after he lacked fare to go and see his idol.
“My neighbor refused to give me my money, which I wanted to use as fare, so I decided to ride my bicycle,” the destitute gentleman told Pastor Ezekiel during one of his church services.
He said he decided to hit the road to meet his cherished religious leader, whom he has been seeing on TV.
The man, who was visibly impoverished, was asked to go for the bicycle by the pastor to show the congregants, who were clapping in joy all through.
“He said I have seen you and I am happy; I was looking for you. And I told him from tomorrow I will look for you,” Pastor Ezekiel said, breaking into a melody as the man pushed his bicycle to the pulpit.
The crowd erupted in applause, amazed by the elderly man’s determination and commitment to his faith.
The man, who owns a one-acre piece of land, is a farmer and has children, including two daughters.
Pastor Ezekiel promised to buy him a new motorcycle, adding that he had learned a good lesson from him.
“A car may be too costly for you. Do you know how to ride a motorcycle? I will give you fare back home, and you’ll carry your bike on a matatu,” he said.
