A woman from Kitengela in Kajiado County is under police custody after a horrifying video shared online showed her stabbing her 2-year-old daughter to death while singing.
The woman, identified as Olivia Naseren, is said to have later eaten parts of the dead child’s body in the incident that happened on Monday.
In the video, neighbors are seen trying to break into the lady’s house, whose door had been bolted from inside with two padlocks, while at the same time imploring the woman to stop harming the baby.
In a statement to the media, she said she attacked her own baby, Gloria Njeri, due to deep self-loathing and the immense pain she had experienced in relation to her child.
“I do not love myself, and that is the reason why I decided to take the life of my daughter,” she said.
Police officers managed to break into the house and found Naseren unconscious.
The child’s body was taken to the morgue, while Naseren was taken to Kitengela Sub-County Hospital, where she is said to have been forced to vomit the alleged body parts that will be used as evidence against her.
“It’s a bizarre incident. We will be interrogating her to ascertain the motive for the killing. We also want to know if the murder was premeditated,” the Director of Criminal Investigations in Kitengela, Benson Mutia, said.
