Bungoma’s controversial religious leader, Eliud Wekesa, alias Yesu wa Tongaren, may soon be a visitor of the state after police summoned him on allegations of questionable teachings.
The religious leader today presented himself at the Bungoma Police Station days after Bungoma Police Commander Francis Kooli ordered him to appear at the station on Wednesday.
Yesu wa Tongaren, while addressing the media earlier this week, pleaded with the police not to arrest him and urged them to use the same energy to arrest lawbreakers.
“I know the police commander who has summoned me is a human being. I understood that he wanted us to discuss church operations. I’ve been at the DC, OCS, and OCPD offices, and nothing has happened. I have no other business other than preaching the word,” he said.
According to a local digital media outlet, a police officer said that the religious leader is accused of misleading his followers not to go back home and stay in his compound.
“All those allegations are lies. All of you have come to this place multiple times and have witnessed what I do,” Yesu wa Tongaren said as a reply.
