A church in Uganda has been closed down after two pastors engaged in a public spat over Sunday offerings meant to clear church rent.
House of Faith Ministries, a Pentecostal church in Kasubi Zone in Kampala, was rented to Caroline Twebaze by Pastor Yusu Katongole.
The tenant was supposed to pay a rent of Sh3,700 every Sunday from the offerings she received after the service.
Ms. Twebaze, however, failed to honor the agreement and accumulated rent arrears of up to Sh35,000.
“In our contract, she was supposed to give me money every Sunday that she conducted a service, but she only paid once and stopped,” Katongole revealed.
Twebaze tried to close the church and escape but was seized while packing her belongings after the owner called the police after a tip off by neighbors.
“We took away her things and put them under the watch of the local council until she pays me money and compensates me for the money I have spent on this case,” the owner, Mr. Katongole, said.
The female pastor left her belongings in police custody and disappeared following a heated confrontation with followers.
The owner, through his lawyer, Davis Friday, vowed to teach Twebaze a lesson until he gets his money back.
“She claims my client does not wish her well and wants her to fail, but he has been quiet for the months she has missed her payments. He chose to stand up for himself because he wants his money,” he said while showing off the court documents.
