A 62-year-old man from Koromaiti Village in Chakalini Ward, Lugari Sub-County, took his own life after a family meeting seeking to resolve the dispute he had with his wife.
Meshack Weku, who retired two weeks ago as a guard at the Koromaiti Dispensary, hanged himself at the doorstep using a binding wire tied on the roof of his house on Sunday evening, Chekalini Chief Julius Mpapale said.
“He has been having a domestic feud with his wife and the entire family. The family held a meeting on Saturday to try to solve the conflict. They also performed some rituals after he had done things that were taboo,” the chief said.
The administrator revealed that the elderly man, a chronic drunkard, has been threatening to commit suicide several times.
Mr. Mpapale said he called police from the Chekalini Police Post, who took the body to the Village of Hope mortuary in Musembe.
