Bungoma GK Prison boss found dead in his house

Bungoma GK Prison boss Aggrey Akoyo was found dead on Wednesday in his house in Mlimani Estate, Bungoma.

Western regional commissioner Irungu Macharia said Akoyo died while still in charge of the prisons.

“I received the news of the sudden death of my friend with dismay and disbelief. This was one of the best officers we had,” Macharia said, as reported by the Star.

Residents and his family are now demanding answers over his death as DCI launches investigations into the incident.

“From the reports, Akoyo did not complain about anything. He has always related well with others and worked well,” Macharia commented, adding that on Tuesday, the deceased reported to work as usual but returned to the house at around midday to rest.

His housekeeper unsuccessfully tried reaching out to him on the phone and was later found dead in his house at around noon on Wednesday.

Police picked up his body and took it to the Lifecare Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem.
