The government has withdrawn the security attached to the top Azimio leadership, including party leader Raila Odinga and his co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka.
Raila’s security withdrawn includes more than 10 police officers that protect him on his daily duties and those guarding his homes in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Siaya.
At least 50 Azimio MPs have also had their security withdrawn by the State ahead of the protests on Wednesday.
Governors Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay, James Orengo of Siaya, Prof. Anyang Nyong’o of Kisumu, and Ochilo Ayacko of Migori have lost their security after police officers attached to them were directed to report to Kisumu.
Raila Odinga said on Sunday that the government had a plan to harm Azimio leaders during the three-day protests scheduled from Wednesday to Friday.
Raila tweeted on Monday: “Starting on Wednesday, be ready for the game-changing maandamano. Tumechoka.”
