Busia: Officials refuse to clear truck suspected to be transporting weapons from Uganda

The officials claimed the truck could be ferrying weapons meant to harm protesting Kenyans.

Drama was witnessed at the Busia border after a clearing agent declined to process a truck that was suspected to be transporting weapons from Uganda.

An agent claimed that the truck was to enter the country without any inspection, as directed by some unnamed top officials.

“We suspect that the truck may be carrying items meant to harm innocent Kenyans. We demand that the vehicle be inspected,” the clearing agent said, adding that border agents would not allow the vehicle to proceed without a revelation of what it was carrying.

All vehicles carrying goods across the border are subject to mandatory inspection for the safety of the public and as per the rules for shipments entering Kenya.

“The vehicle is still here; we suggested it be taken back to the scanning area for it to be cleared.

“We appreciate the officers who declined to allow the truck to cross the border without the documentation. May God bless you for caring about Kenyans,” the clearing agent added.

The video, which went viral on social media, sparked speculation, especially after Azimio Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo claimed that foreign security agents had escorted the truck to the border post.

“This trailer is suspected to be ferrying arms, as per a whistleblower, and was handed over to the Kenyan GSU. Why would they refuse scanning and processing? Why claim it was empty yet?” Otiende posed.
