Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and his wife, Priscillah Oparanya, presented themselves on Wednesday afternoon at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Nairobi.
Officers from the DCI, together with their counterparts from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), raided Oparanya’s homes in Langa’ata and Butere.
The EACC is investigating the ODM deputy party leader over corruption and economic crimes allegedly committed during his tenure as governor.
The detectives want to know how his administration spent Sh1.3 billion between 2013 and 2022.
In a statement, the ODM party indicated that the reason for Oparanya’s arrest had not been revealed.
Oparanya’s lawyer, Ken Nyakundi, said the officers produced a search warrant.
“We could not stop them from doing what they wanted. We are currently at the EACC headquarters, and we will communicate further,” he said.
Oparanya’s team of lawyers, including Danstan Omari, were denied entry into the EACC headquarters in Nairobi.
Chaos were witnessed when the EACC team demanded that the former governor be driven in their official vehicle.
