Police in Bungoma have arrested three people for allegedly offering fake Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) calling letters to Kenyans and soliciting money from them.
The suspects allegedly deceived two Kenyans through phone calls and asked them to meet in Kimilili for a chance to join the KDF, where they handed them the fake letters instructing them to report to the recruit training in Eldoret.
The suspects, who are now in custody, later asked the unsuspecting victims for Sh300,000.The two had unsuccessfully sought induction into the army at Chetais on September 5, according to a bishop at a church in Bungoma.
The three suspects were arrested in a white Toyota vehicle at Chwele, where they were ready to receive the money.
Documents, including five KDF calling letters, six fingerprint forms, two stamp pads, one military boot, five KDF joining application forms, and two Kenya national identity cards, were found in the vehicle.
The matter was reported at DCI offices in Cheptais.
