More than 60 students of St. Theresa’s Eregi Girls High School in Kakamega were admitted to various hospitals on Monday following an outbreak of a strange illness.
Reports indicate that 30 students are admitted at the Kakamega Level Five Hospital, 20 at Shibwe Hospital, and 10 at Iguhu Hospital as doctors try to fully understand the nature of the illness.
Doctors, through laboratory tests, have so far determined that the students had elevated electrolytes, indicating that their bodies had lost fluids.
The students displayed similar symptoms of weaknesses in joints and difficulty in walking.
On Tuesday, irate parents stormed the school, demanding answers from the principal on what was happening to their children.
The parents accused the school management of failing to inform them promptly and keeping them waiting since morning without a show of concern.
