Police are looking into an incident in which a woman, 34, was murdered while looking for her Class Eight daughter at a church in Bungoma.
The watchman of the church has been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred on Friday morning in Bungoma town.
Bridgit Nanjala, the deceased, was severely hit on the head with a baton following an altercation.
“Our preliminary investigation shows that the victim had walked into the church in search of her daughter, who had gone missing from home and abandoned school for a week, after learning she was attending a night vigil,” Muraya said.
The church congregants are said to have confronted the desperate woman and asked for reinforcement from the watchman, who then allegedly hit her.
The woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital, according to a police report.
A relative, who had accompanied her, is recovering at the hospital after she was caught in the aggression.
Nanjala’s lost daughter is expected to sit for her KCPE examinations this year.
“We will also investigate and possibly recommend murder and assault charges on the suspect and others whom we will get,” said a police officer.
