Philip Etale, the Director of Communications for the ODM party and a resident of Lugari Ward, recently disclosed the rationale behind his decision not to support the candidacy of MCA Grey Moi in the general election held on August 9, 2022.
During an interview with WKT at the Lugari Constituency NG-CDF Football Tournament finals, held at St. Paul’s Lugari Boys High School on January 2, 2024, Etale explained that Moi was the only Azimio candidate for whom he did not cast his vote.
Despite being observed voting at the Lugari Primary School polling station in the afternoon of August 9, 2022, Etale opted not to endorse Grey Moi, who was vying on Cyrus Jirongo’s United Democratic Party (UDP) ticket.
The communications chief, who had withdrawn his own parliamentary aspirations in support of the incumbent Nabii Nabwera, clarified that he did vote for the MP but consciously chose not to support Grey Moi for the MCA position.
Reflecting on his voting history, Etale revealed, “For the first time, I voted in Lugari. Prior to 2022, I was casting my vote in Nairobi and consistently supported all candidates affiliated with ODM, except for Grey Moi, who happens to be my relative. As you know, blood is thicker than water.”
