Kakamega Govenor Fernandes Barasa has responded to Senator Boni Khalwale’s remarks that he’ll be challenging him for the gubernatorial seat in 2027.
Barasa, speaking in Navakholo Constituency where he launched road repairs and bridge construction, said he is ready for a duel with the outspoken Senator.
The governor, who clinched the seat in 2022 with the first stab, said that the performance of his government in his first term assures him of a reelection.
Barasa accused Khalwale of failing to defend devolution in the Senate after opposing a bill that would increase allocation of government funds to counties.
“There is a man here who calls himself the Senator of Kakamega. Last year, he opposed 22 billion shillings to come here.
Because he is selfish, we lost money that would have built a road here. We lost money for drugs. I tell Khalwale, the same whip I used 2022 the same whip I will use 2027,” Barasa said.
