Lugari Ward MCA Grey Moi is urging Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa to address the concerns raised by farmers by lowering the prices of subsidized fertilizers.
During an interview with a local radio station, the MCA highlighted farmers’ grievances regarding the increased prices of fertilizers in comparison to 2023.
The ward rep stressed that the rising costs pose a significant challenge as farmers struggle to afford this crucial input, raising concerns about potential yield reductions.
Expressing the frustration of farmers anticipating lower prices than the previous year, he pointed out the financial strain faced by farmers in acquiring these costly inputs.
“The issue has pissed off farmers who expected the prices to be lower than last year. Farmers do not have enough money to purchase the expensive inputs,” he said, while urging farmers to prepare their land promptly amid the ongoing challenges.
Additionally, Moi appealed to the residents of Marakusi Location, urging them to remain patient as efforts are underway to rejuvenate the Marakusi Dispensary. He revealed that the original contractor for the project has been fired, and a new one will be appointed shortly.
Regarding market concerns, Moi has committed to enhancing hygiene standards at Panpaper, Mahemas, and Lugari markets. He declared his intention to collaborate with residents in devising a comprehensive plan for the market’s revitalization.
