Mautuma Location chief, Pamela Kulali Davava, spearheaded an operation today to eradicate 4,000 litres of illicit brew in Mbagara Sub-Location in Mautuma Ward, Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County.
Assisted by village elders, the chief conducted a raid on Jerusalem village, seizing sangara, a prohibited brew concealed in plastic containers.
A total of 15 containers, each containing 240 litres of sangara, were apprehended and subsequently destroyed in full view of the community.
Issuing a stern warning to local brewers notorious for their illicit activities, the chief affirmed that the law would soon catch up with them.
“Illicit brews have inflicted profound damage on families and shattered marriages, impeding the elderly in fulfilling their duties, hindering youth progress, and causing children to drop out of school,” Ms. Kulali emphasized.
She reiterated her commitment to assisting the government in combatting illicit brewing, urging the community to join forces in eradicating this vice and safeguarding future generations.
“This serves as a caution to politicians who endorse this vice; they should lead in public awareness campaigns promoting sobriety and educating about the detrimental effects of alcohol,” she added.
