Bryan Munika Liseche, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency, has launched an ambitious program to provide free uniforms to learners from low-income families.
Through his Vaa Uniform na Commander Initiative, the former military officer has already distributed 27 pairs of uniforms to students at Lake Basin Primary School in Lugari Ward and Mapengo Primary School in Chekalini Ward.
Next in line are the pupils of Mlimani Primary School, who will receive 15 pairs of uniforms as the program expands to every ward in Lugari Constituency.
“My goal is for every needy pupil to benefit from this ambitious program. By involving local tailors in the uniform production, I am also supporting local businesses,” stated Mr. Liseche, who is also a successful businessman.
Liseche himself attended Mugunga Primary School in Lugari Ward under challenging conditions, often trekking barefoot and wearing tattered clothes—an experience he hopes no child will have to endure.
He believes supporting disadvantaged children is a collective responsibility, extending beyond elected leaders, and encourages anyone able to contribute to this cause.
“Promoting quality education for children from humble backgrounds is crucial for the future of our community. Simply calling them future leaders isn’t enough; we must help them achieve their dreams,” he emphasised.
Madam Christine Lidava, the headteacher of Lake Basin Primary School, praised Mr. Liseche’s initiative as a positive gesture that will significantly enhance her pupils’ performance.
