In a significant development for residents of Nabemo village, Mautuma Member of County Assembly (MCA) Charles Anyona has provised an update on a long-stalled water project aimed at alleviating water shortages in the area.
The village, located in Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, has long grappled with limited access to clean and safe water, forcing residents, particularly women and children, to walk long distances in search of this essential resource.
Speaking to WKT, Anyona reassured residents that the project, called the Mlimani Water Project, once operational, will connect each household to a reliable piped water system, addressing one of the village’s most persistent issues.
“Once the main connectivity is established, I will invite the Kakamega Water and Sanitation Company (Kuwasco) to complete connections to individual homes,” said Anyona, adding that he is working closely with the contractor to expedite the project, which has remained incomplete for years.
Beyond the immediate relief for residents, the project is expected to support local institutions like Nabemo Primary School, where access to a reliable water supply has been a longstanding issue. With the completion of this project, the school hopes to enhance its learning environment, while residents look forward to an end to their taxing journeys for water.
This update brings renewed optimism to the Nabemo community, with many hoping that, at last, consistent and convenient water access will become a reality.
