The body of Victor Aswani, a 20-year old student at Chekalini Secondary School in Lugari, Kakamega County, who drowned on Sunday while swimming in the Kipkaren River, was retrieved this evening.

His sister, Vancy Aswani, has confirmed that his brother’s body was retrieved by local divers at around 5.00 pm near the spot he drowned at Bondeni, a village neighbouring their Itumbu home.

Victor was with his little cousins fishing, and he had dived into the water for the second time that day before the heartbreaking incident at 2.00 pm.

“He was in the company of the little ones swimming and fishing. He had dived into the water for the second time that day. Police who visited the area said they found his clothes and some fish. It is something they are used to, only that this one was an unlucky day,” Vancy told the Western Kenya Times today morning.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Chevaywa Mortuary.
