A family in Kiminini Sub-county, Trans Nzoia County, is demanding justice after their kin died in Saudi Arabia after complaining that she was being mistreated by her bosses.
Stella Matara, who went to Saudia after Form Four as a domestic worker, is said to have complained to her brother Joseph Matara on Thursday about being sick before she passed on.
Her mother, Mary Wekesa Matara, says her daughter left for the Middle East through a link from an agent who comes from their area. The agent connected the girl to another one in Nairobi, who organized her flight to Saudi Arabia.
She remembers the calls she used to receive from her complaining of mistreatment, such as overworking. There was even a time she fell sick, but her employer refused to let her get better medical attention.
The family is now calling upon the government and well-wishers to help them transport Stella’s body from Saudi Arabia for burial and bring to book the deceitful agents who plunge young girls into trouble and don’t care about their welfare.
It is also appealing to the relevant authorities, such as the Embassy, to help with the welfare of Kenyan citizens in foreign countries.
