Lugari: Strange creature locking villagers in at night, devouring dogs

Residents of Mufutu Village in Lugari Sub-county, Kakamega County, are dreading the existence of a strange creature that they say roams their homes at night, killing dogs.

The creature, which has been ravaging the village for six months now, has killed more than 50 dogs. Residents now fear that it is a danger not only to them but also to their livestock.

“If it kills and eats dogs, then how safe are we and also our children who wake up early every morning to go to school?’’ Mr.  Bonface Wanjala, a resident, told the media.

Another resident, Protus Wafula, says that the situation has paralysed their business: they have to close by 6.00 pm and ensure everyone is safe at home.

“Our lives have been terrorized by the creature. We have to get home before 6.00 pm due to fear,” he said.

Ms. Josephine Mukasia is one of the most affected because her four dogs were killed by the creature.

“We used to have so many dogs in this area, but many have been killed by this creature. We just don’t know what to do,” she said.

James Kuta said he has been forced to lock in his dogs at night to protect them from the wild animal.

“Instead of the dogs protecting me at night, I have been forced to give them protection by locking them in the house,” he said.

The residents are now appealing to the Kenya Wildlife Service to intervene after the local administration turned a deaf ear to them.
