Netanyahu speaks after backlash over ‘desparaging’ remarks on Jesus Christ

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has come under sharp criticism following remarks made during a televised address on Thursday, where he stated that “Jesus Christ has no advantage over Genghis Khan.”

Netanyahu appeared to suggest that qualities associated with Jesus Christ, such as calmness, may not be sufficient in confronting adversaries like Iran, arguing instead that the aggressive tactics of the founder of the Mongol Empire, Genghis Khan, could be more effective in times of war.

In a follow-up statement shared on X, the Prime Minister clarified that his comments were not intended to disparage Jesus Christ, explaining that he was referencing Genghis Khan’s approach within a broader context.

“A fervent admirer of Jesus Christ, Durant stated that morality by itself is not enough to ensure survival,” the post reads. “A morally superior civilisation may still fall to a ruthless enemy if it does not have the power to defend itself.”
