Man returns from looking for doctor for sick friend only to find his body hanging from his bedroom ceiling

A 54-year-old man from Lugari Constituency died by suicide at his friend’s house in the Lake Basin area of Lugari Ward on the night of Saturday, March 28, 2026.

According to the homeowner, Issa Jumba, the deceased, identified as Jairus Madana Gwehoma, had been struggling with mental health challenges linked to a family land dispute. He had been staying with his friend for about one and a half months, as his family resides in Eldoret.

Jumba explained that about a week before the incident, Jairus appeared mentally unwell, prompting efforts to seek medical help. However, attempts to reach a doctor were unsuccessful. On the day of the incident, Jumba left early in the morning to look for a doctor but did not find one.

At midday, he returned home and found the door locked. Assuming Jairus had stepped out, he left again. Later in the evening, he noticed the door was still locked from the inside. He then asked a young boy to enter through a window and open the door.

Upon entering, they discovered that the bedroom was also locked from the inside. After forcing it open, Jumba found Jairus hanging beside his bed.

“He had been experiencing mental health problems since he came to stay with me. I don’t know what could have happened this time,” Jumba told WKT.

The body was removed by officers from Turbo Police Station and taken to Musembe Morgue in Lugari, where it is being preserved as burial arrangements begin.
