A Kenya Railways train transporting wheat derailed at Kiwanja Ndege Village in Lugari Sub-county, Kakamega County, spilling over the cargo.
The train, which was bound for a neighboring country from the Kenyan coast, failed after nine of the 10 containers left track due to a mechanical problem at around 4.00 pm on Tuesday.
Lugari Sub-County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu told the media that residents were stopped from looting the cargo by an enforcement team from Lumakanda Police Station.
The residents are said to have given police a hard time, but no fatalities were reported.
