The construction of the Sh100 million male medical-surgical ward at the Busia County Referral Hospital has commenced.
The project, funded by the National Government in collaboration with the Council of Governors and the County Government of Busia, is expected to boost health services to residents, according to Chief Officer in the Department of Health and Sanitation, Jonathan Ino.
“There will be enough space to accommodate patients who require surgery,” the health expert said as quoted by the County Press Team.
He noted that the current space at the facility will be used to provide other services.
“The male ward block will cost sh64 million. We shall also be able to operationalize the Intensive Care Unit by doing the gas reticulation storage at a cost of sh6.5 million as well as install a standby generator with a capacity of 450 kVA at a cost of sh11 million,” he continued.
The project contractor Peter Mugoya of Petmart Services Limited assured residents that the project will be complete by June 30, 2022, as per the agreement.
