The race to succeed Ayub Savula as Member of Parliament for Lugari Constituency is taking shape barely four months into the much-anticipated general elections.
In the latest poll conducted online by the Western Kenya Times (done every month since March) to determine the popularity of each candidate in the race, businessman Bryan Liseche is still ahead of former Kakamega County Chief of Staff Nabii Nabwera.
Liseche, who is chasing the seat under the UDP ticket, amassed 32.43% of the total votes cast, coming ahead of his opponent Nabii, seeking to vie through the ODM ticket, who garnered 24.32% of the votes cast.
Isaac Andabwa followed distantly with 8.11% while Alex Atingo, Rodgers Kulali, Nancy Mudeheli and Henry Shitanda all received 2.70% each.
In the poll that was conducted on this website, other voters preferred that other candidates would have appeared on the list by 21.62% while 2.70% were undecided.
What Lugari people want the next MP to address
The poll also presented the question of what the voters would like the next MP to give weight to.
A majority of 48.83% voted that roads be given more attention, followed by youths employment by 20.69%, education bursaries by 17.24%, electricity by 10.34% and academic institutions by 6.90%.
Popularity of Ayub Savula
The voters were also asked to rate area MP Ayub Savula’s performance in the last 10 years he has been in office.
A whopping 78.13% rated his performance poor, 15.63% thought that it is average while 3.13% voted that it was good. Another 3.13% voted that they were not sure.
The poll was conducted between April 2, 2022 and April 4, 2022 and had an accuracy of 97.50%.
