George Natembeya, Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) candidate for Trans Nzoia County governor, has launched an online fundraising campaign to support and popularize his bid.
The former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner aims to use the platform to appeal to well-wishers to raise money for his campaign as well as hunt for more votes in the cosmopolitan county.
“The website will enable us to reach out to well-wishers and supporters within Trans Nzoia and beyond to assist us in this journey. This is a common practice in most world economies,” he said while launching the platform on April 30.
He said such an initiative should be embraced by all Kenyans seeking elective posts to prevent leaders from looting public resources when in power.
“Politicians have a tendency to utilize public money during their campaigns. I’d rather Mwananchi donate funds for my campaign and I will be able to account for each and every penny,” he said.
The politician said every coin will be used accountably during his campaign, adding that electoral laws need to be tightened to ensure public officers eyeing elective positions don’t divert public funds to their campaigns.
“Those who use their funds on campaigns steal to recover while in office,” he added.
