Bondeni ‘A’ village elder, Agness Siko Mukhwana, told the Western Kenya Times on phone that she heard whistles and Mr. Okulo shouting, “I have caught a potato thief”.
“When I went out to check, I found the man and asked him what was happening, and he said he had caught a potato thief. I followed him to his home to go and see for myself,” she said.
Mrs. Mukhwana said that she found the mutilated body of Mr. Mbakalo at Mr. Okulo’s potato farm, with his legs broken and his body severely stabbed.
“He died after a short time,” she said, adding that no potatoes were found on him nor any sign of him digging for the tuber crops was noticeable.
A witness said Mr. Okulo has been accusing Mr. Mbakulo of stealing his sweet potatoes. Mrs. Mukhwana confirmed that she once received the same complaint.
Police from Chekalini and Lumakanda Police Stations are currently at the scene preparing to carry the body away to the mortuary as they launch investigations.
