A 12-year-old boy from Sirende Village in Trans Nzoia County committed suicide after a disagreement with his father. The incident occurred after the father had allocated him some duties to carry out but the young boy declined. This lead to a quarrel with the father which ended up in the boy leaving home and disappearing to an unknown place.
It forced the family members to start searching for him and eventually found the body of the young hanging on a coffee branch in a neighbor’s coffee farm.
It is reported that the deceased was staying with his stepmother because his mother and father had separated because of family issues.
Reports reaching Western Kenya Times indicate that the boy had a serious disagreement with his father, stating that he (the young boy) was being mistreated by his stepmother, a neighbor who didn’t want to disclose their identity stated.
“Unfortunately the minor ended his life over family issues and the body has been taken to Kitale County Hospital Mortuary,” Joseph Tumbo, Kiminini OCPD, stated and urged parents to engage in dialogue with their children when issues arise in the family.
