A boy from Busia County has left the whole country talking after he walked 60 kilometers from Busia County to seek admission in Bungoma County.
Moses Oduor Odhiambo, 16, sat his KCPE at Mundika Primary School in Matayos Constituency, Busia County, and scored 361 marks, and was called to join Teremi Boys High School in Kabunchai Constituency, Bungoma County.
His mother, who raises him alone, said she is unable to raise his school fees after she was divorced from her husband, who was their sole breadwinner.
“I decided to walk since I could not even raise money for bus fare,” he explained to journalists upon arrival. He wore his former primary school uniform and was in slippers.
Oduor, whose ambition is to attend university and help his family, appealed to people of goodwill to help him raise fees for his secondary education.
“Immediately I joined class one. My dream was to attend Teremi Boys’ High School. I am very optimistic that someone will come out and help me,” he said.
Teremi Boys principal Dr. Elphas Luvaso said Oduor arrived at the school without any required admission materials. The school head appealed to Busia County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’ and Matayos MP Godfrey Odanga to chip in and help the students pay school fees.
“It is my humble appeal to well-wishers and appealed to them to intervene and help such students,” he said after admitting the boy.
