A middle-aged man has been found dead in Lugari Forest after logs of trees allegedly fell on him and killed him.
Lugari Sub-County OCPD, Bernard Ngungu, told the Western Kenya Times that it is suspected the logs, some of which were found at the scene, fell off a moving truck or lorry involved in an illegal logging activity near the forest management offices last night.
The OCPD said preliminary investigations reveal that accomplices in the crime drove away and left their fellow behind.
“The truck or lorry seemingly was involved in an accident as observed by my officers. It could have overturned and the logs fell on the victim. The vehicle was then removed from the scene and the body left behind,” he said.
The OCPD expressed bewilderment on how the illegal logging could have occurred without the knowledge of the Lugari Forest officers.
“Logging was banned long ago. I don’t know what the foresters are doing there if something like that can happen without their knowledge. I have summoned them to my office for interrogation,” the police boss said.
The body of the deceased has been removed at the scene to the Webuye Mortuary as police launch investigations.
This comes barely a week after another body of a tree nursery worker was found in the forest with private parts injured.
