Leaders in Trans Nzoia County seeking various seats have pledged to deal with land grievances in the county through petitions in their respective legislative houses if elected.
If elected, Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Werunga, who is now seeking the senatorial seat, said that in the first 100 days in the Senate he will have petitioned the national government to review land use if elected.
Werunga said it is astonishing that the county has vast land meant for agricultural purposes, especially in Agricultural Development Cooperations (ADC), which should be used to settle some land grievances.
He emphasized that he will demand from the National Government through a petition to allow 1000 acres to be edged from the ADC farms and to establish a public university.
He stated that establishing a university and a teacher training college will alleviate the burden of students traveling long distances for education.
Endebess aspiring parliamentary candidate Chamii Jamii Simiyu echoed the sentiments, saying he will address land issues in the Endebess Constituency in the National Assembly.
Chamii, who spoke after the Bukusu elders endorsed him for the Endebess seat, said the land dispute in the constituency will be solved if the electorate makes wise decisions in the next general election.
