A man from Marakusi Village in Lugari has left residents in consternation after he secretly took the body of his wife from the mortuary and buried it at night.
Willaim Chebukale is said to have stopped the burial that was scheduled for today and instead ordered police to return the body of his wife, Robai Khavai, who died on May 27, 2022, to Chebaiywa Mortuary.
“Despite all the efforts to ensure our mother is buried on June 3rd, our father opposed the move and called police officers from Turbo police station and took the body back to Chebaiywa mortuary. What’s more shocking is for him to remove the body at night and hire people who secretly buried it on Saturday night at the far end of our farm,” James Musoga, Chebukale’s son, told West FM.
Family members discovered that the body had been buried at a shallow depth of 2 feet instead of the required 6 feet and covered with sugarcane leaves at the ground level.
Chebukale’s daughters, led by Naomi Aduvukha and Ruth Munai, said they are not even sure if their mother’s body is in the coffin or if it’s just an empty coffin that was buried.
They said that their father has banned them from accessing the home.
“Since after the incident, our father has banned us from coming home or questioning him over the incident.”
The family is now calling on the government’s intervention to help them accord their kin a decent send-off.
