A woman in Kitale is being held by police after she allegedly stabbed her husband to death for using the Sh100 meant for food to buy cigarettes.
According to Nation, the 29-year-old woman allegedly attacked her husband and stabbed him in the chest.
“The woman rushed to the kitchen, picked up a knife and tried to stab her child, but the husband blocked her. Unfortunately, she ended up stabbing him in the chest,” Trans Nzoia Police Commander Ms. Jecinta Wesonga told Nation.
Matisi Nyumba Kumi official, Paul Ngoya Barasa, said the woman escaped lynching after the incident.
“I was heading to the Miti Mbili area when I saw a mob beating up the woman who had allegedly stabbed her husband using a kitchen knife,” he said.
The deceased was rushed to a nearby dispensary but was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Kitale County Hospital, where he was referred.
While the body of the deceased is lying at the Kitale County Referral Mortuary, the woman is cooling her heels at Matisi Police Station, waiting to be arraigned in court on Monday.
