Business activities in Kitale town came to a standstill after residents held a demonstration to protest the utterances made by Deputy President William Ruto against Defence CS Eugine Wamalwa during a Kenya Kwanza rally in Saboti Constituency of Trans Nzoia County.
Residents, including the boda boda led by their Secretary James Nyakangi, said that Ruto defied public decorum as a leader and Deputy President for referring to Eugine as a “woman”.
DP Ruto and CS Wamalwa brushed shoulders after the former accused the DP of attempting to slap him in the past. Ruto had responded by saying he doesn’t slap “women”.

Nyakangi said boda boda riders had resolved to vote for Kenya Kwanza Presidential candidate William Ruto but, following the “uncontrollable” utterances made by him, they have shifted their support to Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga as the 5th President to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta.
“The same Ruto abused, Moses Wetangula, a Luhya leader, in 2017, that he was not a man enough after he was roughed up by his wife. The same Ruto called another Luhya leader, Musalia Mudavadi, shetani (devil),” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Wycliffe Wanjala, the Kitale boda boda chairman, who said they will be going all over the county to educate their colleagues for the remaining days before the election why they should not vote for Ruto.
