Trans Nzoia gubernatorial candidate for DAP-K, George Natembeya, has received a major boost after the Marakwet community endorsed him for the county’s top seat.
Marakwet leaders, led by the former UDA aspirant for Cheranganyi MP Julias Tunduria, said they have installed and endorsed Natembeya as the next governor and that the decision is irreversible.
Tunduria said the community came up with the decision after deep consultation.
Speaking at an installation ceremony that took place in Cheptobot in Cherangany Constituency, Tunduria said it is Natembeya who can deliver Trans Nzoia County that has lagged behind for lack of tangible developments for a decade under the leadership of the Ford-Kenya government.
Former marathoner Moses Kiptanui, together with other leaders, challenged the electorates in the county to elect Natembeya, saying his record speaks louder.
They appreciated Natembeya for delivering on the promise he made on title deeds while he was still working as the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.
Natembeya, accompanied by defectors from Kenya Kwanza — Julia Kichwen, Teresia Metto, and David Kapoloman, promised the elders and the people of Trans Nzoia participatory leadership where electorates will determine the kind of projects they want to give priority as per their area, among other things.
George Natembeya has been ranked by the recent Tifa polls on top with 56pc, followed by Dr. Chris Wamalwa of Ford-Kenya who had 21pc.
