Irate residents of Munyuki Village in Lumakanda Location of Lugari Sub-county set on fire the property of a man who allegedly killed his friend.
According to reports, the residents were avenging the murder of Julius Amugari, alias Winji, a middle-aged man who was killed by his friend Brian Musirwa after a misunderstanding.
Mr. Festo Jandi, Munyuki Sub-location senior village elder, said Mr. Musirwa hit Mr. Amugari with a stone.
“The situation angered residents who destroyed crops and torched a house belonging to Martha Musirwa, mother of the suspect, and also demolished and flattened the suspect’s house as they bayed for his blood, forcing him to seek safety in the neighboring Mukuva village, where police saved him,” Mr. Jandi told West FM.
The deceased was rushed to Kakamega County Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead during treatment.
The suspect defended himself by saying he never intended to commit the crime.
“I accidentally hit him with a stone in self-defense after a misunderstanding, thus injuring him. I didn’t mean to kill him,” he said while in the hideout.
