Monday and Saturday will be the official trading days for Lumakanda residents in Lugari Sub-county, Kakamega County after the County Government of Kakamega officially opened the first open-air market to accommodate traders in the area.
While presiding over the official launch, Kakamega County Director of Trade and Tourism Shem Muhati emphasized the government’s commitment to boosting business in the county.
The director urged traders to follow the rules that govern the operation of the market, including paying taxes.
“I urge you to pay taxes and other fees as per the requirement of the County Government since this forms part of the decision to improve the structures and operations of the market,” he said.
He went on to ask local entrepreneurs and the market management committee to ensure public standards such as enough public toilets, clean water and a clean environment are followed.
He added that after gazetting and officially opening Lumakanda market, the county government will start working on a budget to create a conducive environment for traders.
