Residents of Lugari Constituency could be having little knowledge of a man who seems to have emerged from space to join the long list of candidates seeking to succeed Ayub Savula.

Jairus is currently the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) of Kibera Lindi Ward in Kibra Constituency, Nairobi County.

A dig into his past brings out the history of a man who has not only been in the political space but also has had to deal with a number of dramas that come with it.

Mr. Omaya was accused in 2019 of selling water tanks that were given by then Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko as a donation to help people in his ward end the water shortage problem.

The youths also raised concerns about poor representation, a factor that cost them job opportunities created by Sonko.

The murder attempt case

In February 2022, four suspects were charged in court with an attempt to murder Mr. Omaya along Ngong Road in Kilimani Sub-County, Nairobi, accusations that they denied.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), four alleged hit men, one of them allegedly Omaya’s brother-in-law, had their well-planned mission of taking down the MCA thwarted.

Reports allege that the plan was orchestrated by his estranged wife, Elizabeth Mbai, with whom they had been married for 18 years.
