IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has declared William Samoei Ruto the Fifth President of Kenya elect amid a glaring fallout between the IEBC commissioners.
Ruto won the election after garnering 7,176,141 (50.49%) of the votes cast, defeating his closest opponent, Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja, who garnered 6,942,930 (48.85%) of the total votes cast.
Kenyans went to the polls on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, and the tallying process has been progressing since then until when it was concluded today.
Chebukati’s announcement comes barely minutes after four commissioners of the IEBC distanced themselves from the results through a press conference.
