The Rift Valley town of Eldoret has this evening gone ablaze upon the announcement of Deputy President William Ruto as the Fifth President-elect of Kenya.
Residents of the town were for the better part of the day glued to the street screen and, upon the announcement by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati that Ruto is the winner of the tight race, the residents broke out into dances and songs of triumph.
Residents packed at the center of the town could be seen carrying placards and posters bearing the face of William Ruto and the identity of his UDA party.
Other Rift Valley towns of Kericho and others in Central Kenya such as Kerugoya are experiencing celebrations.
Supporters of Ruto in Western Kenya towns of Kakamega and Bungoma have also taken to the streets to celebrate.
Ruto has been declared the winner of the election after garnering 7,176,141 (50.49%) votes against Raila Odinga’s 6,942,930 (48.85%) votes.
