Advocate Willis Otieno, who is representing petitioners Mr. Khalif, Mr. Osewe, Ms. Mumbi and Ms. Kamau in the presidential election petition at the Supreme Court, cracked the ribs of judges while describing the situation under which IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto as President-elect.
The lawyer, who vehemently condemned the IEBC for conducting the election in the most unconstitutional way, suggested that Chebukati made a gamble, more the same as a game played by his niece he referred to as Mimi, called “piki piki ponki”.
“What Chebukati did is what my niece, Mimi, calls “Piki piki ponki paka mielo disco”. Chebukati calls both Ruto and Raila and he was the only person who knew who the disco would land on. It could have been either of them. It fell on Hon. William Ruto and he says, voila, you are the president. Is that how we intend to choose our national executive? We have reduced to Mimi’s childhood games!”
Justice Smoking Wanjala, while laughing out the joke, asked the advocate to maintain decorum and use language that is not “alien” to the court.
Sweat could even be seen trickling down the lawyer’s cheeks as he presented the heated submission.
