A 31-year-old man from Chimoi Village in Lwandeti, Lugari Sub-county, is under police custody for allegedly killing his wife by hitting her with a hammer.
The suspect, identified as Jacob Mutevesi Barasa, is said to have committed the heinous act after coming home late on Friday morning and engaging his wife, Melvin Namisi, 26, in a fight.
“I received information from members of the public that there was a man who had killed his wife. I rushed to the scene where I confirmed the incident before alerting the police,” said Thomas Luvonga, Lwandeti Location chief.
The administrator confirmed that the suspect murdered his wife with a hammer and a piece of wood, both of which were found stained with blood inside their house.

He said the body had severe injuries to the head and fingers, signs that she was smashed with the hammer.
The incident infuriated residents and police officers from Matete Police Station acted speedily to rescue the suspect from their hands.
The body of the deceased was taken to Webuye Sub-county Hospital Mortuary as the suspect is expected to be arraigned in court to answer murder charges.
