Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has announced that he will not be attending President-elect William Ruto’s swearing-in despite having received an invitation call from him this evening.
In a press statement shared on his Facebook page this evening, the Azimio la Umoja leader has communicated that he has other serious concerns he’s attending to outside the country.
“First I believe that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the body in charge of elections in Kenya, did not conduct a free and fair election. Secondly, I believe that the ruling of the Supreme Court was not based on facts and the law, even though we accepted it,” read two paragraphs in the statement.
The leader has promised to announce the next move his coalition will take “to deepen and strengthen our democracy” once he comes back.
“In the meantime, I applaud and thank our supporters and Kenyans who came out in large numbers to vote for us on August 9th, 2022,” he concluded his statement.
