Police officers from Mlimani Police Station raided three villages in Mautuma Ward of Lugari Sub-county, Kakamega County, and destroyed 2,200 liters of the illicit brew chang’aa, on Thursday.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Pamela Kulali said the raid was conducted in Makutano Township, Makutano Centre, and Makongeni villages after receiving complaints from members of the public.
“It took us two hours to complete that exercise, and we found 2,200 litres of chang’aa in the villages. We will not give up until we completely kill this kind of behavior. We want to live in a free environment where there is peace, not a rotten society,” she told the Western Kenya Times while in her office today.
The chief said they found men drunk and uncontrollable. She lamented how youth have plunged into smoking marijuana and abusing other drugs.
She also asked parents to be responsible for their children.
“As a parent, you should know where your child is and what he or she is doing. That way, we will save the next generation,” she said.
Some of the suspects who were arrested are in police custody awaiting being arraigned in court.
