Sirisia Member of Parliament, John Waluke, has surrendered himself to the police to start serving his 67 years in jail after the court found him guilty of corruption charges.
Waluke now risks losing his seat after the High Court threw out his appeal seeking to overturn the 67 years jail term or Sh1 billion imposed on him after he was found guilty of the Sh297 million scandal involving the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
His wife , Grace Wakhungu, will also serve 69 years in jail or pay a fine of Sh1 billion.
Waluke and his wife are accused of engaging in a shrewd deal to scam the NCPB Sh297 million through Erad Supplies and General Contractors, a company in which they are directors.
The company is also accused of acquiring property worth Sh13.3 million in fraud.
Should he fail to pay the fine, the MP will lose his seat for he will be heading to jail and a subsequent by-election will be declared by the IEBC to replace him.
The law in Article 99 (2) (g) of the Constitution spells that a lawmaker is bound to lose a seat if he or she will be imprisoned for a jail term exceeding six months.
