The senatorial mini-poll race in Bungoma County is increasing in momentum following entry of popular businessman Enock Makokha.
Speaking to the Western Kenya Times, Mr. Makokha said he is confident and ready to face off with his opponents, and that he has the necessary experience needed to oversee the county government.
Makokha will vie as an independent candidate with his manifesto focusing on curbing corruption and holding the county responsible for any funds.
He said that his agenda is to ensure the people of Bungoma are fully represented in the Senate and also ensure the resources of the county are well guarded.
“I am ready and willing to defend devolution at all costs and also ensure more money trickles down from the government to the county in budgetary allocations,” Mr. Makokha said.
The businessman, who is making his first stab at active politics, also promised to engage the county government and Kenya Airports Authority to make sure Matulo and Bungoma airstrips are back to life.
He will be fighting it out with immediate former Bumula Member of Parliament Mwambu Mabonga, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s aide, Wafula Wakoli, and political activist Jacob Machaha.
The by-election will be help on December 8 following the resignation of Moses Wetang’ula who went for the National Assembly Speaker seat.
