The Sabaot community drawn from Mount Elgon Constituency will back an independent candidate in the forthcoming Bungoma senatorial by-election.
Addressing the press yesterday led by Mt. Elgon politician Pius Muyeyi, the community leaders said that they will support business man Enock Makokha for the Senate seat.
Muyeyi said that Mr. Makokha’s manifesto has interests of people from the region which are considered as the minority.
He chided Ford kenya and UDA for neglecting the region during the just concluded nomination.
“The Kenya Kwanza government has neglected our interests and we therefore back Enock Makokha for senatorial seat,”said Muyeyi.
His sentiments were echoed by political activist Kesesi Ndiema who promised to drum up campaigns for Mr. Makokha to capture the seat.
The seat has attracted seven candidates: Wafula Wamunyinyi (DAP-K), Wetang’ula’s aide Wafula Wakoli (Ford K), businessman Joseph Lendrix Waswa, Jacob Machacha, Rev Herman Kasili, lawyer Erick Nakhurenya, and former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga.
